A month before summer officially starts; the entire Business Works Group has plunged into the blue ocean! The setting: not in a picturesque beach resort somewhere in the South, but right in the middle of the city – in the Isla Ballroom of Edsa Shangri-La Manila.

March 12 and 13 marked the launch of a new member of the Business Works family, Blue Ocean Strategy Philippines (BOSP) with Anthony N. Pangilinan as Chief Navigator and John S. Baybay as Country Manager.

Over 400 executives from the Philippines’ top companies listened to and engaged with the co-author of the International Bestseller Blue Ocean Strategy, Prof. W. Chan Kim. The Blue Ocean Strategy Day on March 12 was divided into two sessions: a Brand Forum for marketing managers and brand executives in the morning; and a CEO Forum for top-level executives and company owners in the afternoon. A fitting follow-through was the whole day Blue Ocean Strategy Application Workshop on March 13 with Professor Kim’s protégé, BOS Regional Center Director of Training, Jason Hunter.

Like any voyage, the navigation to the blue ocean encountered rough waters: like the last minute invite to Jason Hunter’s highly rated workshop and the sound quality during the conference itself that was only solved at the latter half of the conference. The event organizers appreciate the patience and understanding of the participants & commit to improve this in the future.

In mounting the events, not only the rapport between the Business Works Group and the participants (including their companies) was fostered. In the process, even the linkages between the different people under the companies in the group were strengthened.

Indeed, as companies follow the events’ theme, as they navigate from the red ocean crisis to the blue ocean of opportunities, they will foster better relationships with their customers AND even non-customers. Value innovation, the book’s core concept, forwards the idea of ignoring competition and focusing on strategic thinking on the buyer which will result to a leap in value for both the company and its customers.

The establishment of BOSP, through its international network of qualified BOS trainers, practitioners and consultants, as it forges partnerships with companies who want to get into the blue, will ensure that the strategy is implemented and launched successfully.
